What is Physics?

First, and most importantly, what do you define physics as?  What is your understanding of what learning physics is all about?

Here is a simple video in a present day sitcom that tries to explain physics...

Physics is the study of matter and its motion, how it interacts with other matter. There are a few main topics in overall physics; mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics. Most of these topics relate to one another in some sense.

Learning physics is understanding how the world around us works in relation to us and to other matter in the system.

Physics is the scientific study of the interaction between systems, normally matter and energy in a broader sense. Basically everything in is related to physics; turning a light switch on, throwing a ball, how molecules are created and combined, nuclear war and its aftermath, and medical innovations.

Physics allows people to understand how everything in out world from the smallest to the largest particles work and interact with one another. Learning physics enables us to understand the past, the present, and account for the future.
